It seems there is no end to the war against spammers. One technique used successfully until recently was the extensive use of images in the mail unsolicited.

These images, once you open the message, informing the spammer that
the address where the letter was sent was a real address, and existing uses. The address of the victim was then automatically end up in the lists of addresses to spam good.
